Europe@feddit.org•Great Britain now bars trans people from many public bathrooms and changing roomsEnglish
5·9 days agoIt half-reads as if this (unisex bath/changing rooms) being the norm is the real goal. Unfortunately there’s the part where they exclude schools and want every teacher to know which sex was assigned at birth to each student.

Europe@feddit.org•Great Britain now bars trans people from many public bathrooms and changing roomsEnglish
5·9 days agoAnecdotal but the only time I found a man in a women’s restroom doing “funny business” was in the UK. That guy pretended to be a service worker in a theme park. He entered a stall next to a 16 y o and tried to peep through the gap between partition and floor. Fortunately he was quite vocal in his “pre-excitement” and his head stuck out into girl-next-door’s stall before he was able to see very intimite parts or do something more…
Edit: typo

And there’s still an opportunity to visit her today! 😃

Europe@feddit.org•UK government reviews why police ceding criminal cases to US militaryEnglish
1·16 days agoUnfortunately this is nothing new in other countries with US-military presense either. The US is very protective of their citizens. When it comes to military there’s an extra incentive to “protect” the reputation of the US and their military.
US (military) courts can provide harsher sentences than most European countries. In reality it’s worse for victims and their families if American procedural rules result in offenders getting off with significantly lighter sentences or even acquittals because investigators have flouted those rules. I don’t know about statics concerning this topic - I only remember when media reports uncover such cases, where crimes like rape and manslaughter/murder were committed. There have been incidents in Germany, Italy, UK and Japan that come to mind.
One of the main problems result from different procedural rules in countries. If the first steps of an investigation were led by the local authorities their results (including a perpetrator’s confession) may then be ruled inadmissable as evidence in a US trial.
It seems like a better idea to try these individuals in the countries where the crimes were committed, especially if investigations were started by local law enforcement.
Critical Gaze sounds like a cool stage name. Let that Boobook drop some bars!
I am disgusted.

It’s rather bitter that
according to reports from the SZ, NDR and WDR, the suspect, Abdul B., had been classified as an Islamist “threat”. Security authorities therefore assessed him as having been radicalised and prone to violence.
He is alleged to have attempted to travel to Syria to join the “Islamic State”. According to reports, he was arrested at Berlin’s BER Airport in late 2025 whilst returning from Lebanon. According to investigative sources, he is said to have been held in pre-trial detention until May 2026 on suspicion of preparing a terrorist offence.

And from tagesschau Live-Blog
According to reports by NDR, WDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the suspect, Abdul B., had been required to attend sessions with a deradicalisation counselling centre. The newspaper Die Welt was the first to report on this. He was currently still undergoing what is known as a ‘clearing process’. This means that the counselling centre, an NGO, had not yet decided whether to accept him as a client. According to the report, only two sessions had taken place so far, with the third due to follow next week. These had initially been voluntary. During the counselling sessions, B. is said to have proved to be a complex case in terms of his ideological stance. Although he had been friendly and cooperative, the counsellors had harboured doubts about the sincerity of the discussions.

6·24 days agoAt least the monkey now has a chance to spend its time with other marmosets and experience a social life it’s likely been deprived of.
But threatening people with fines and jail is bound to lead to more dangerous situations for the animals. Why not introduce a chance to surrender them into capable hands including an amnesty?
That’s the whole shtick of these conservatives. The modern capitalist version being: Rules are for poor people - rich people are making the rules.
