Unlike immutable distributions that lock you out of the native package manager
Direct pacman use is blocked. /usr/bin/pacman is a wrapper around pacman-real
Regardless, I do support attempts to make an immutable and declarative Arch distro. An an ostree implementation on Arch is an interesting experiment. You might want to check out Darch which boots from container images.
Its a common courtesy that if you publish something on the AUR, then you actually think people would use it and you plan to maintain it. You don’t bother pushing some half baked afterthought to the AUR. Leave it on github. Otherwise you’re just squatting a perfectly good AUR package name.
People are publishing their slop projects as if they intend on maintaining them, but they clearly aren’t capable or willing to actually maintain them.
This is my #1 problem with it. Just put it on github and call it a day. Don’t act like its production ready at all. The #2 issue is namespace pollution.
This look like cucumbers not lettuce. Cut lengthwise and peeled.
$8 mil is pocket change for the investors. It’s like eight dudes all giving their bro $100 for his art project.
The HOMES mnemonic is now SHAME.
(I’m sure some lib on bluesky figured this out before me)
The Gates Foundation had strong objections to releasing the covid-19 patents. I’m sure they had some sort of rationale that wasn’t "this would set a bad precedent for M$ patents.
Defense One reported that the PAC-3 ACE’s first flight is not expected until early 2028, with production planned roughly 18 months after that—putting serial manufacturing around mid-2029 if the current schedule holds.
LMAO
Israel could straight up attack Turkey triggering article five and several NATO members, including the US, would immediately back Israel. You can point out how stupid, irrational, and illegal that would be all you want, and you’d be correct, but its still what will happen. That’s the level of ideological commitment to Zionism we’re dealing with here.
10x the diplomatic pull
Outside of being a NATO member I don’t think Turkey has the sort of political pull that Israel has. Israel has literally been getting away with genocide for years now. Its functionally illegal to criticize Israel in many places.
potentially soon to be nuclear power, Saudi Arabia
Let’s let the powderkeg of Wahhabism have nukes, that’ll stop the Islamic Republic. No the clock towers will never fall.
Yeah when will those expired GPUs hit the resell market? Or are they going to grapes of wrath them.
They are making the chips, building the data centers and collecting the data. None of those are the missing piece. The missing piece is being able to actually turn a profit from that entire pipeline.
1GiB = 1024MiB and 1GB = 1000MB. OP does seem to get those confused.
Storage devices are frequently smaller than advertised just as 2"x4" boards are.
You cannot flash an image onto a device smaller than the image’s size. Your only options are to get a larger device or shrink the image. Shrinking the image is possible but not without understanding how the image is created. It should be possible by taking the published image and somehow editing it. Or by simply rebuilding the image yourself from source. Either way you’ll want to start by reading .github/workflows/build.yml from that repo.
Also, because this is doing some PS4 exploits, its possible that the exploits depend on the 256GB size. Unlikely by conceivable.
Idk about the mega neckbeard for opensuse. Every one I’ve met has been the most normal and least annoying. It just works and allegedly has some very nice convienence features.
Also the arch user could just as easily be copied to nixos.
Mint is perfect for exactly that purpose. There’s a daunting marketplace of alternatives all with different specialties. Mint’s specialty is being as easy and newbie friendly as possible. Out of the box - it just works - etc.
The AUR with delayed official repos was precisely my issue with them. Then they put GUI helpers ontop of both pacman and the AUR which auto update and now you’ve got a real recipe for disaster.
Ubuntu will actively break itself via snapd at like 2am on a Sunday.
Fedora could not do a fully system update on a 1GB VPS because dnf would OOM.
The dumbest thing I’ve seen Arch do in over a decade of using it is put RabbitMQ in its official repos while also rolling the latest version of Erlang which RabbitMQ doesn’t support.
No and neither does Manjaro which is less stable than Arch in my experience.
SteamOS uses an immutable system with A/B partitions. One partition is live but read only. Updates apply to the other partition which is hidden. Which partition gets mounted is swapped on a reboot after an update.
Ding ding ding.
