There’s also not much how for a brighter future here in Japan (or much of anywhere in the world, it seems like), so I’m sure smart people don’t want to being children into such a world.

Japan will do anything but address the root issue of their toxic work culture. How do they expect anyone to have and raise a family with the economy as it is while they continue to normalize and allow companies to exploit their workers.

Underpaying, “encouraging” working extra hours (for free) to show “dedication”, nomikai (see: more forced work hours, unpayed)…

A middle class Japanese person will work 10-14 hours a day, get paid for 8 of them, and then be “encouraged” to spend 2-3 hours a night a couple nights a week “bonding” with coworkers and drinking (see: spending their money, on work)… neverminding all economics of it all, how, more importantly WHEN, tf is anyone meant to have personal time to themselves to meet, date, have a relationship? Let alone raise a kid.

The answer is simple. They expect the women to do all the raising and give up their career. There is a lot of pressure for this. Women don’t really agree with this, and an increasing number of women choose to not marry and not have children so they’re not pressured into that path. Of course, a dating app will not help much with that.

If you keep up on the news in the last few years, they actually have been addressing that. It’s just too little, way too late.

We have a population problem. But we don’t want to make it easier for people to have children or to increase immigration. We better give tax money to a company instead.

I would like to disagree, but mildly.

People being unable to find partners in life is an actual problem, but not the only problem. Most dating sites are designed to keep users searching, gamify the process and extract payment, while they could instead use widespread sociological knowledge to give good recommendations or enable effective searching.

I appreciate your disagreement as I was being (perhaps a little too) sarcastic above.

However, I would counter your point sincerely by saying that affordability and a lack of resources are more likely causes for native people having less children.

There is also a lot of fear for the future from things like war, nationalism, and various other global catastrophies.

I know a lot of thoughtful married people that find it easier not to have children then to worry about these things. And this is not something unique to Japan.

Also I’d say the anti-immigration policies and culture speak for themselves.

In any case.,I’m sure that money could better fight a population decline if it weren’t being given to dating apps.

Romance is just one of the many many human interactions ruined by techbro overreach. Subsidies surely will come with access to surveillance from those apps further subjecting the public.
