Yeah, I think the problem isn’t always our entries. Look Mum No Computer was fun and kind of smart and cheeky. Kraftwerk inspired. It should have done better.
Sam Ryder is so exceptional the anti-British settlement feel away. His character and voice talent shines so bright.
He was not a good fit for that kind of politically charged event. Moreover I doubt he will ever become mainstream or moving large crowds. And again, I’ve been following him for years, have had to cross borders to see him play live.
Alot of previous winners haven’t had mainstream apeal. Some odd acts have done rather well. I suspect that he didn’t have the support he needed from the BBC or the prep work needed for a performance. He made his own set witch is typical Sam. He should have outsourced more to other people so he could control the overall picture and so he wasn’t fixing the set before he got on stage. The fact that he was on his own after a performance was indicative of what support he was getting.
I wonder if the humour of the song wasn’t coming over well in the other cultures. That the Kraftwerk mock styling was done with love. Maybe many thought we were just taking the piss, not of ourselves, but of them.
