      N=1 and all, but my son was quite capable of explaining, clearly and in detail, his inner life at three. He’s on the spectrum and highly intelligent, so that may make him an outlier.

      (Both sons did fall for me calling saffron “monkey fur” well into grade school though.)

        Fair, yes, although I’m talking about the unconscious inner world. It’s a sophisticated, two-way-communication that goes beyond the literal meaning of the words themselves to identify projections.

        There are people trained to do this work with that age group - but I don’t think the typical training for a psychotherapist (or a counsellor) enables or allows them to do it.
