According to them, Maryam called both of them once over the past month. She complained to both that she was going hungry because she was being fed pork, which she did not eat because she was Muslim.

According to Soltaev, the girl was taken from her family because of concerns about possible neglect. Soltaev claimed, however, that Norwegian authorities had found no evidence of wrongdoing by the parents. He also said that after the girl was taken into care, the police prevented her parents from seeing her for five weeks at the request of the child welfare service. Soltaev called what happened a ‘shocking story’.

The girl’s father gave a more detailed account of what happened. Soltaev himself published a video of a conversation with him. According to the father, Shaaman, police came to the family’s home on 5 August following a report that the girl had allegedly been hit by her mother. The parents were taken to a police station, had their phones confiscated and were placed in separate cells. Their two sons were also taken away, the father said, adding that the parents did not know where they were for some time.

The parents were released only on 9 September. According to the father, they then learned that their daughter was in hospital in a coma. The girl later died.

According to the organisation Tsjetsjensk Diaspora i Norge (‘Chechen Diaspora Norway’), 50 Chechen children are currently under the care of the authorities.
