That’s the GI hammer, the one the US military used for like 75 years. Most modernized 1911s have what’s called a bobbed hammer, but that is a commercial modification for comfort. Spur hammers are out of style now because they’re stabby and can get caught on things.
The spur looks a lot more definitive, that’s for sure.
I think there’s a semi-recent video on youtube of Garand Thumb testing one that’s over 100 years old. I wonder what it’d take to shoot one out? A safe queen might last indefinitely if you don’t count new springs.
