    This triggers such a visceral rage in me.

    I’ll never understand what it is to be a man, and to be a man in western society at this moment in time either. There is something so horrifying over the entitlement to women’s bodies. It’s not new, of course, but what will it take for society to move beyond that? (Rhetorical, but discussion welcome).

      Being mtf and kind of understanding what it’s like to be a man, I’ll say, the only thing that can (and will) change society, is material change.

      Women being materially (read: legally, economically) capable of fighting back against abuse, on a societal level (that means, basically all women, ideally as well as every other citizen).

      Entitlement to women’s bodies is just one of the many entitlements rich white dudes have. And the way that they keep their entitled property, is always, disenfranchisement of the people having the desired thing. In this case, making women weak, in the real sense.

        I know this isn’t what you mean, but I don’t think it’s something we should have to defend against, it shouldn’t be an idea in their heads to begin with. Not doing something because you might get trouble isn’t going to change the core problem. But I’m not turning my nose up at harm reduction!

        I didn’t really explain that part about not being a man in my comment too well and I’m struggling to do it now without needing a billion trigger warnings and to be far more careful with my language than I can manage right now 😅 A lot of it has to do with not understanding the lust/hate combo how it can be so strong that so many people turn into monsters. If women are seen as an outlet for rage, etc. what is generating the need for that outlet and how can it be dealt with otherwise?

          As far as I’m concerned (that means, disregarding other readers), there’s no need to be too careful about language, if you want to put your thoughts behind a spoiler with a trigger warning, I promise to interpret with maximum charity hahaha

          Reading your response, I’m first going to say the unimportant thing: Being able to defend, is not harm reduction, it’s a necessary (but not sufficient) part of the whole solution. Our material conditions shape us, and when there’s real money to be made for being a sociopath, you’re gonna get sociopaths. And there is real money to be made. Jessie Gender just made a very good video about Jacob Geller, which you can watch even without knowing who those people are.

          But I think what you are actually most concerned about is as you said in your final sentence, what is generating the need for it. It’s hard to explain in a few sentences, but it’s the culture of extreme violence and pressure those men are expected to fit into, by other, richer, more powerful men. And the great material rewards they can reap, if they fit in. Philosynoir has also made a great video, that touches on the violence of this insane world from an internal perspective (that I can 100% second, every word is how it is).

          It’s hard to truly understand or convey internal experiences of others, but as far as the lust/hate combo goes, the basic shape is that:

          1. Having needs is treated as weakness, and weakness is your (the man with the need) fault,

          2. There is no socially acceptable way to receive intimacy and emotional connection apart from sex, and

          3. If you (man) do what we (patriarchs) say, we promise women(lower class) will tend to your sexual need. And if they don’t, you’re not Man Enough. Be more Man.

          And if you fail, you lose your masculinity and you become part of the underclass.

          So those hateful men, are emotionally starving, rabid, and with the wonderful combination of both “Feeling like they have something to prove”, and “Feeling like they’re owed, after sacrificing too much”. And the person that they’re actually owed from (patriarchs), is both too powerful to face, and tells them that they should get “what they’re owed” from women.

          So, very many of them, prefer the mental convenience of dehumanizing women, to actually realizing they’ve been scammed and turned into monsters.
