It means that we show up every day for each other because we want to, because we love each other and want to make each other’s lives better and easier. My chosen family found each other because no one else wanted us! Our little nickname for our friend group is quite literally “The Leftovers” and we are weird and goofy and totally accepting of each other. We celebrate our differences because that gives us strength. One person may be great at admin tasks while the other is great at handy tasks around the house.
My chosen family means my kid has uncles and aunts that celebrate his wins and help keep him on the right path with us. Our chosen family shows him that diversity is good, that we are all different people with different needs, but we can all work together to make sure we’re all taken care of in our lives.
Especially being queer. Chosen family is everything to me.
