Your current logic is since the government knows your personal information, everyone should then share this information with every company or person that asks for it. I am an admin on lemmy, a social media site that would be required in some countries to do digital ID verification. You’re saying that people should trust me with their personal info to verify their age or that they are human and allow them to continue using lemmy. I am a random person, just like Persona and the other random companies that do age verification. Persona has already had a leak btw. Do you trust Discord? You shouldn’t since 70,000 IDs were leaked. Or how about IDMerit who exposed 1 billion records of PII?

If you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn’t be afraid of me asking for your information I requested so that you can continue browsing lemmy uninterrupted. Do you see why your logic makes 0 sense? The government is not doing the age verification for reddit*, it is a random person like me doing it. You do have something to hide, because you refused to send me your personal info, you refuse to doxx yourself.
