Europe has got to stop following US interests and establish relations with Russia. Although they claim so, the current state is hardly a moral decision given the EU is still selling weapons and politically enabling Israel in carrying out a full fledged genocide without batting an eye.
It’s time for Europe to get off its high horse and play a constructive role.
Better a disfigured Europe than a Europe that has it figured out, at least for the rest of the world outside of the west.
Europe’s sanctions against Russia are not driven by US interests. You can see this clearly by just how much the Russian government despises European leaders. America has never really cared about Ukraine or Russia and Biden didn’t actually provide much support to Ukraine until they started winning. Europe generally is also more invested in and holds stronger support for international law (not the “rules-based international order” like most of the anglosphere) even if they don’t always uphold it.
The war in Ukraine was of America’s making, but Europe has to bear the consequences of it (as with everything America does). In that vein, since America started the war in Iran, Europe likely will have no choice but to start buying Russian gas again.
The BCE Central European Bank published an editorial in the FT on 7 April saying energy dependency was a serious problem in Europe. While say Spain, which has invested heavily in renewables for a sustainable economy, has an energy cost of 40-45€MWh, Italy has a energy cost, perhaps the most expensive in Europe at 130-140€MWh. Salvini is in government as deputy PM, how is he coming to terms with this? They have a financial package to reduce energy costs, though that’s just Italian state money to the supplier. But that’s only going to get it down to 100-120€MWh - nowhere near 40-45€. Now Salvini’s proposing to buy more from Russia? Meanwhile Spain can spend their tax money on other projects rather than proposing to give it to a different country.
Be careful with this dual-edged sword and who wields it.
A piece of shit doing shitty things. News at 9.
Nothing new, he has always acted as if he is a Russian asset
That’s right, anybody who doesn’t want to destroy their country’s economy is a Russian puppet.
The reference is the Metropol 2018 case where Salvini met with the Russian deputy prime minister Kozak. Later there was a meeting at the Metropol hotel with Salvini’s associates from the Lega (his political party) to agree a mechanism of the financing of the Lega for the EU elections. The agreement was for the Italian state to buy Russian energy (oil) and the price difference, around €100 million, was to go to the Lega.
Pales in comparison with the EC corruption really. https://goodauthority.org/news/what-2025-revealed-about-corruption-inside-the-e-u/
Sure, though at a national level it’s more significant, and resorting to whataboutism isn’t really helping your argument.
Whataboutism is when I point out that you have no leg to stand on.
The point here is that there’s nothing out of the ordinary happening here in terms of corruption. All large scale projects in Europe, whether they happen on national or EU level, have this sort of corruption happening. However, presence of corruption does not mean the project itself is not useful or shouldn’t be done. The only reason people are freaking out about it is because this project happens to be done with Russia. Finally, screeching whataboutism is a way to say you lack consistent moral standards.
Yawning 🥱 🥱 🥱
if you know his career, you know what I am talking about (I guess you know the Gatti’s book, just to cite one, but as I said it’s all his careers, not just one instance) , otherwise, keep repeating slogans, I hope you gain something out of it 😉
Bye bye 👋🏻
only one repeating slogans here is you, enjoy wallowing in your Russophobia
Bye bye 🤡
Facts are facts and his career is what it is, I even give you a source if you could read🤷♂️
And I didn’t say anything about Russia, just about his career, so writing about Russophobia is quite dumb, I mean I didn’t say a single thing about Russia, quite curious that’s all it matters to you, right? It’s really a mistery! 🤭
I should doubt you reading comprehension and intelligence, if it wasn’t now clear what you are and why are you doing this, so it’s pointless to keep going
Прощай 👋🏻

I guess this chatbot has a really small context window https://lemmy.ml/post/46119944/25231575
