Going a different direction later in life is absolutely not “starting over.” Your life experience comes with you, and if you’re even slightly self-aware, that will give you a leg up. I decided to go back to school for a specific career when I was 30 after working in retail management for awhile, and by 36, I was in management in that new career, which was directly attributable to my prior work and life experience. I went back to college in my late 20s, attending a community college and watched exactly this happen with my older classmates, they all walked into much more senior roles thanks to their prior job experiences and soft skills from those earlier jobs in different fields. Heck I even managed to snag a better job than my 20 year old peers based on my work experience
