  • There is luckily zero chance for any of that. If there is one thing the Magyar voters hate more than Orbán, it’s Putin. On literally all of Magyar’s speeches, or any event connected to the Tisza party, there are alway-always “Russians go home!” chants. Which ironically was originally an Orbán quote from 1989. But it took Orbán 20+ years to change his (and his voters’) tune. So I think we are safe with Magyar for about a generation in this regard.

  • Orbán was trying to get Trump to come here and do an endorsment speech for him. There were talks about it. Having the POTUS, the “leader of the free world” here just to endorse Orbán I think (or at leats they did) could have boosted his chances. Especially as Orbán likes to present himself as one of the major players. The big boy on the playground, who is friends with all the biggest ones.

But of course Trump was too lazy to fly all the way here. So he decided to send the next best thing. And when they realized they actually have no next best thing, he sent JD.

But Vance is actually not that well known here. I think 95% of potential Orbán-voters could not place or recognise him. So even though VPOTUS sounds good in theory, it really did not matter that he was here in any way.

  • Yeah, don’t think that effect/logic was working here significantly.

Orban’s party really just had at least one major scandal for every day through the last two weaks. Think like several different Watergates on steroids daily. Sometimes two or three a day.

Seriuosly, we were having calendars made about them to keep track of them and everything. It was a fun game to try to predict where the next days scandal(s) are going to come from. It was like the mother of all bad campaign finishes. I was having a blast, it was beautiful.
