This local man ironically was a history teacher in the Kings of Wessex School in Cheddar.

Ask Science@lemmy.world•What is going on in the brain/body when a newborn is considered blind? Do they do it like a cop can tell a drug user by pupil dialation? How far along do they need to be to even check for it?English
41·4 days agoA newborn brain is learning for the first time to move the eyeball, focus the lens, then keep the eyeball directed towards an object, and even then, needs to process the variation in information between two eyeballs. I’m not in this field but holy moly. Remember that newborn human brains are still in development after the womb, and it’s not a high priority of the brain to get eyesight adjusted immediately. It allows for more plasticity I assume for the brain to focus on other sensations first.
They insist newborns are not exposed to strong light or sunlight for this reason.
In Prometheus Rising, the comparison between politicians eking out borders is compared to animals rubbing feces and piss on trees.
It’s my guess, but our social cohesion meant that human mothers were protected and fed well in order to nurture their young. Thus more time for cerebral development.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Donald Trump is doing more to help green causes than any other leader at the moment
4·11 days agoNot to mention that destroying quite a few refineries and storages of oil has just released quite a fair bit of extra emissions, and wasn’t utilised at all. 0% efficient use.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the fantasy book/series everyone should read?
2·19 days agoYeah, I put Hyperion/Hyperion series since the series is not for everyone.
I personally enjoyed the Endymion books, some people enjoy Fall of Hyperion and leave it at that.

The elderly I expect come from a generation of school students who were not taught critical thinking. The elderly are exposed probably more to the whims of the media than young people are, and coupled with cognitive decline and lack of critical thinking, their brains are easily rewired and indoctrinated. Think about the number of voters you can sway.
