This is exactly how Isreal is leading the U.S. decision making. They have dirt - fabricated or otherwise - on everyone. If they don’t get what they want, Isreal threatens people with exposure and if that fails, releases the dirt and pushes to get the person kicked out of power.

Honestly, I can’t say I know the truth. And I don’t think you can either. Almost certainly, Isreal committed attrocities, but how much of the Palestinian narrative of nakba is fair compared Israeli description is impossible to gauge. I’ve talked to people who grew up in Gaza and they don’t have nearly as much animosity about pre 2023 Israel as many here on Lemmy do.
I know the Arab world did declare war on Israel immediately following its declaration of independence, as that’s a matter of historical record. There are quite a lot of conflicting accounts of how and why many Palestinians moved, from just getting out of the way so the Arab armies could wipe out Israel, to ethnic cleansing by Israel with stuff like poisoning wells. In some ways it doesn’t even matter at this point as the situation is terrible right now and that needs to be addressed. Israel is clearly commuting atrocities right now, so at the very least, that’s got to be the priority to address. Unfortunately the US is directly helping with the atrocities now, so they’re not likely to help.

I don’t ‘let Isreal off for their war crimes’ they deserve to rot in hell if ya believe in that sort of thing. Right now the Israelis have significant military advantage and they’re abusing it horribly. But if you go back decades it’s been a shit show on both sides. Heck multiple Arab armies declared war on Isreal on day one.
