Technology@lemmy.world•The Pulse: ‘Tokenmaxxing’ as a weird new trendEnglish
9·6 days agoI’m sick of it too. From now on I’m going to max as little as possible. I’m calling it minmaxxing and no, it has nothing to do with RPG character stats.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Pardoned a Nursing Home Owner Who Owed Almost $19 Million to a Grieving FamilyEnglish
5·12 days agoThe headline is misleading. The pardon was for the 3 year prison sentence for $39 Million dollars in tax fraud for stealing his employees’ payroll tax withholdings.

5·12 days agoIf had to deal with this administration for work I might resort to alcohol myself. I’m betting she was already an alcoholic before they hired her and that her only qualification was expressing loyalty to Trump.
Yeah, ozymandias doesn’t actually know if wabi-sabi has anything to do with the skewed buns, and neither do I, but the info is otherwise all accurate and seems like a decent guess to me. I’m big fan of the idea, and make a point to look for the beauty in the imperfections in everyday life.

memes@lemmy.world•It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood.English
7·14 days agoPeople joke, but growing up watching Mr Gowron’s Neighborhood taught me so much about honor. I look around these days and think how much better off our society would be if more warriors had watched him as children.
This looks fun. I don’t know any Polish but I’ve seen it around, and I used to be kinda fluent in win32 years ago. I’ll have a go. [Edited updated best guess in brackets.]
spoiler
- LPCWSTR win32 string type [longpointer(32bit) to c style (null terminated) wide(UTF-16 characters) string]
- PSZCZYNA Polish
- WCSLEN win32 type for storing the length of a WCS (whatever that is)
- WCZESNY Polish
- LPCTSTR win32 string type [longpointer to c style T? string]
- BYDGOSZCZ Polish
- WSTRZAS Polish. Tricky because it contains STR, but feels much more Polish than win32.
- HGDIOBJ Polish? [win32 handle to a GDI object]
- DOWOD Polish
- HWINSTA win32. handle for a (static?) window maybe.
- DLUGOSC Polish
- LPCSTR win32 string type [longpointer to c style string]
- DWORD win32 (and any other c based 32bit OS) 4 byte integer type (or 8 bytes in 64 bit OSs) [remembered wrong here. in some systems DWORD changes size with architecture, but in Windows it was 32 bits in win16, and so it is forever]
- KAL Polish??
- LPWSTR win32 string type [longpointer to wide string]
- SZCZECIN Polish
- BLAD Polish
- PUHALF Win32 pointer to unsigned 1 byte integer (or 2 byte in 64bit)
- CHUJ Polish
- UHALF win32 unsigned 1 byte integer
I clicked the link and read the whole thing. I still am not sure if this is sincere or satire. It’s so out there that I kind of hope it is real, and that they find what they are looking for.

News@lemmy.world•ICE agent charged with two felonies for pointing his gun at motorists during Operation Metro SurgeEnglish
49·16 days agoThis will be an important test for local governments holding federal agents responsible of unlawful behavior. I expect the Trump crowd to all out fight this, both in court and media.
I’m proud of you, Son.

Musk and team: “OpenAI was founded as a non-profit, and turning it into a for-profit corporation with shareholders is a betrayal of its founding, and humanity itself.”
Altman and team: “Musk is just big mad because he wanted to control OpenAI and we didn’t let him.”
I suspect that they’re both, uh, mostly not wrong on those points.
