Both the American and rest of the world versions of their respective ball games are played on foot, as opposed to polo that is played riding a horse. The latter was originally invented by Ralph Lauren, as commemorated in ubiquitous t-shirts with a gentlemanly collar.

I was also firmly team cat, but my wife really wanted a dog. We now have two Spanish water dogs. These guys are clean, (mostly) well behaved and they don’t moult. They need long walks and activity, but that’s only agood thing as it keeps me going too. I have been converted.
I did burgers and mushrooms with cream cheese filling wrapped in bacon on Friday. Saturday I did skewers with chicken thigh, halloumi and vegetables. Sunday was racks of pork ribs and home made BBQ sauce.
Kids are a full time job. Add work on top of that and your free time is gone. Thankfully our kids are already adults, and we now have plenty of time for other things: cooking, long walks with dogs, etc.
Not too bad, thanks, although good part of the week was recovering from long haul travel. Travel for work has been too frequent recently so I need to do something about that.
On the positive side, BBQ on Friday and Saturday, and another one in the works for today.
How was your week?

5·28 days agoI’m not sure any of the actors you listed has played a variety of different kinds of roles convincingly comparable to TH repertoire.

3·28 days agoFor me a great actor is one who convinces you regardless of the type of role they play. I think the spread of roles TH has played convincingly is up amongst the best.
Hang in there. I’m originally from a fair bit further North, although less moist than what you are enduring. I continue to favour the “not heatwave” conditions.
This is the way.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•NHS spends record £241m outsourcing scan analysis to private firmsEnglish
11·30 days agoCrudely, I would estimate one professional to cost £100k per year. Outsourcing money used for hiring would equate to 2,400 staff. That could be a mix of skills, such as radiologists, nurses, SW/ML engineers and data scientists. I’d argue you can get a lot done with that money if you know what you are doing.
I’m sure they’ve done decent cost/benefit analysis instead of saying building our own capability is too difficult. I’m sure my taxes are being wisely spent.

8·1 month agoTwo party system must come down, here in the UK and anywhere else it’s dominating politics. Proportional representation inevitably leads to much more balanced governments and better politicians in power. Not perfect, but better.
I had a boss who didn’t use even the context menu never mind keyboard shortcuts. He went for the application Edit menu to copy/paste. Gave me headaches.
Planet Rock just did a 50th anniversary special of Rainbow Raising. My first ever album and I still love it. Played it loud and proud just last weekend from start to finish. Lamb is in the BBQ…
It’s been nice to stay home and not have to travel for work. It’s been surprisingly cold for May, and mid week I was tempted to put my winter woolly socks on. Next I’ll attempt to make lamb shoulder on a coal BBQ to top the weekend. Let’s see how that goes.
I was abroad, three days one week and four days the other. Travelling for work can be appealing, but the appeal wears off quite quickly. There only so many airports and hotels you can take before it becomes boring. Oh, and you are tired all the time especially if you are traveling across multiple timezones.
For BBQ we did burgers one day, and steaks and vegetable skewers with garlic potatoes the other day. Next weekend weather does not look great, but if it improves I might consider making pork ribs.
Last week was second consecutive week of travelling for work. Not a fan! Weekend was a fair bit of garden work & BBQ both days. I am a fan of that!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a song where you like a remix or cover better than the original?
2·2 months agoSeveral of the Garage Inc covers are great.
Very easy to setup. Learning temperature control and having a nice flame over just when pizza goes in took a bit of practicing, but after a while easy. They also have nice resources with good tips. I’ve been very happy with it.

Casual UK@feddit.uk•What's the earliest number of this you remember seeing in real life?English
2·2 months agoI remember the first one and didn’t buy that one either. By then I had already been a metal head for good several years.

Past week was good, topped up by a nice weekend. Next few days look to be rather hot. Stay safe, folks!
