The first game I ever saw that used the technique (or, at least had an option for it) was Outlast and it was pretty much just for the LCD screen effect of the camera you used, and that looked pretty close to what an older camcorder looked like, but yeah; the general vignetting most games use it for is why I turn it off. I hate vignettes that don’t convey info, and even the ones that do can be pretty intense and just make it harder to see instead of just telling you you’re hurt or cold or on fire.

Never played the TTRPG but I get the feeling they would kinda end up being more or less the same except SR has the magic and monsters. IIRC, Shadowrun started as a blatant rip off of Cyberpunk and they actually share quite a bit of items and ideas. But obviously adding magic and mythical monsters to it is vastly superior. 😁

IMO, because this all centers on access to social media platforms, it’s also a restriction on freedom of speech. Kids can’t talk to other people just because of the form of communication? Fucking bullshit and does absolutely fuck all to fix the true underlying problems. The lack of ID also just puts the restriction on many unhoused adults and is very likely to be an intentional side effect.
