If I had the money, I would fund an EVE Online spinoff that existed to compare different socio-economic models against each other. Year 1 would have the shards separate, so that each community would develop in isolation and master their respective styles. Year 2, the shards are linked together to that each ‘galaxy’ can visit each other for trade and conquest.

The way I figure, our world is so used to feudalism and capitalism, that things like genuine socialism or communism would be ‘noobs’ when their governments spawn, and thus be killed or corrupted not long after appearing. Giving time to become equals with infrastructure and experience would be useful for evening the playing field of the experiment. Plus, we can look at each society at isolation before mixing in the complications of competing with other models.

To me, it would be preferable to study these models in a virtual environment, before trying them in the real world. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that we will have to fly by the seat of our pants and hope for the best.

I think the Universal Ranked Income concept that I put together can address at least some of the issue. The essential idea is that everyone receive basic UBI and benefits, such as free healthcare, generic food or supplies, basic car, basic housing, fuel, and so forth. A job is for earning money, which in turn is used for luxuries and upgrades. In effect, money is a non-essential currency.

Aside from that, each type of job falls into a category of rankings. This rank gives a fixed amount of money, replacing the basic UBI income of $10k for a citizen. Assuming a full year of work after mandated vacations and whatnot, that would be $40k for a basic job like waiter. An astronaut gets the highest ranked job, which brings in $100k. Mix this with an absolute cap on wealth and assets ($100k for each category), and that will limit the power of a person over society, while allowing for a reasonable level of liberty and prosperity for a person. Plus, companies can’t commit wage theft or use bad terms.

However, this doesn’t entirely address companies by themselves. Each worker should have the ability to vote for the leadership and the leader’s paygrade within their own establishment, and also be able to cast such votes for leaders that are above the establishment. Say, WalMart managers - you can vote for your store’s manager, the city’s manger, the state’s manager, and the nation’s manager, ect.

Still not enough. Companies also should have restrictions on how much total wealth and assets they can hold. What I propose: the cap is 50% of the staff payroll, based on each employee. An waiter adds $20k to the company’s capacity, while an astro is 50k. If a company needs capacity without increasing headcount, they can participate in a government lotto program. The lotto gives an annual income to a winner, and each winner only can have one income at a time, which can replace basic UBI. To qualify, they have to be without a job and not have any benefits to draw upon. (Each day worked, gives 1 day of income as retirement benefits.) This allows companies using AI or not needing people, to still contribute to society while improving their fiscal potential.

I know, a long list of stuff. Unfortunately, economics are wooly and there are many, many issues to sort out, if we go down the route of an egalitarian society.

Guess that I will try to aim for that position, if I somehow get close enough. I have big ideas about UBI, redefining how work…well, works, and how to make political powers more egalitarian. Unfortunately, I don’t think they could be realistically be implemented without a huge amount of force, be it social, political, or militant.

I want the best future for people, but it feels like it can’t happen without being a complete jerk. 😞

I am on team ‘fulfill projections on them’. I don’t want to start a fight, but I will finish it on terms that don’t suck for me and other decent people.

There was a time when I wanted peace among all Americans. I now no longer consider members of the Dogey to be American, and want to fight a bloody war against them. They are enemies, who wish to murder the innocent and to enslave.

There cannot be peace in our time, because the Dogey are fundamentally evil. Until the cancers of fascism, elitism, and conservatism is removed, all the good people in America will suffer.

Hopefully, I and many others will live to see a better America. Or Americas, as the case may become.

I think Europe’s best hope regarding Taiwan, is to establishing a EU-NATO partnership where Europe protects Taiwan, getting military chips in return. If Europe doesn’t do that, the only good alternative is to develop their own chip technology to at least equal China.

Another possibility is India protecting Taiwan. India isn’t friendly with China, and being able to have top-end technology would very much help India in the decades to come. There is much soft and practical power to having the chips.

I hope to someday see this traitor swinging from the gallows. Hopefully with a priest excommunicating him, moments before.

No idea. I don’t play those games, and only had a couple months of experience with Linux a year or so ago. My experience with Mint mostly worked, but I play lots of games far outside of the Steam ecosystem. My edge cases is why I didn’t switch at the time.

Provided you stick to just Steam’s garden, you probably won’t have issues. There is a website for checking compatibility with Proton, the layer used to run Windows games via Steam.

Automatic consequences, too. For example, a president who initiates war (without even declaring it!), has to get congressional approval within 10 days. Failure to secure approval is automatic removal from office, and imprisonment. If thirty days pass without congress forgiving the transgression, execution is carried out, and the general public is permitted to do the deed without punishment.

That sort of thing would make office holders much more reluctant to abuse their stations.

Consider giving Zorin OS a shot. Their particular distro is purpose-built to allow for easy migration away from Windows, into a Windows-like Linux environment. No terminals, and they make it easy to install and run .exe files. Their $50 pro edition includes some technical support as well.

Personally, I am waiting for SteamOS Desktop to release. Once that happens, I will be comparing CachyOS, Zorin OS, and SteamOS to decide which best suits my power-casual life.

I think America is too big and too stratified, it is no longer possible for young and interested people to guide the nation. Only aging people with great wealth can ever have a shot at control, and their beliefs are extremely dated by default. Also, our founding document is about 250 years of age, and wasn’t built for a coast-to-coast nation of high technology. There weren’t many democracies nor republics to model our society after, so we didn’t have much foreknowledge of the pitfalls that could happen.

Sheer inertia of belief, wealth, and flawed design, underpin America’s problems. Franklin Roosevelt delayed the destruction of the America we knew, and our modern political critters have squandered the opportunity to save the ship.

This America, is almost certain to die. The great question, is what things will replace it?
