Actually there is also religions promoting science and research.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_attitudes_towards_science
A number of modern scholars such as Fielding H. Garrison, Sultan Bashir Mahmood, Hossein Nasr consider modern science and the scientific method to have been greatly inspired by Muslim scientists who introduced a modern empirical, experimental and quantitative approach to scientific inquiry. Certain advances made by medieval Muslim astronomers, geographers and mathematicians were motivated by problems presented in Islamic scripture, such as Al-Khwarizmi’s (c. 780–850) development of algebra in order to solve the Islamic inheritance laws,[18] and developments in astronomy, geography, spherical geometry and spherical trigonometry in order to determine the direction of the Qibla, the times of Salah prayers, and the dates of the Islamic calendar.[19] These new studies of math and science would allow for the Islamic world to get ahead of the rest of the world. ‘With these inspiration at work, Muslim mathematicians and astronomers contributed significantly to the development to just about every domain of mathematics between the eight and fifteenth centuries"[20]
Many Muslims agree that doing science is an act of religious merit, even a collective duty of the Muslim community.[61] According to M. Shamsher Ali, there are around 750 verses in the Quran dealing with natural phenomena. According to the Encyclopedia of the Quran, many verses of the Quran ask mankind to study nature, and this has been interpreted to mean an encouragement for scientific inquiry,[62] and the investigation of the truth.[62] Some include, “Travel throughout the earth and see how He brings life into being” (Q29:20), “Behold in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding …” (Q3:190)

World News@lemmy.world•Father kills teen daughter after she refused to delete TikTok account, Pakistan police sayEnglish
1·1 year agoOne of the core societal demands of the prophet Mohamed, blessings and peace be upon him, was to end the practice of burying daughters alive. At the time a daughter was considered a disgrace, so some pre-islamic Arabs murdered their daughters this way.
The Quran is also very explicit about the rights of women and the correct behavior towards them, something that is often ignored in societies that claim to be muslim, but evidently did not read much.
“OG Islam” is fundamentally opposed to femicide. Femicides aren’t a religious but a cultural issue and prevalent outside of religious groups too.
Bonus points for jumping onto latinos and blacks who didnt turn out for Biden/Harris and immediate show that they are deeply racists twats who just virtue signaled before, to get these communities to vote for them.

World News@lemmy.world•How power imbalance, misread signs and strategic blunders clouded Hamas’ judgment over Gaza ceasefireEnglish
1·1 year agoHamas and other Palestinian groups tried all angles of diplomacy over the past 75 years. There is no intention to solve anything diplomatically on the Israeli side and there is no intention by any major supporter of Israel to stop them from genocide and ethnic cleansing, be it fast or be it slow.
So either Palestinians get murdered quietly, or they resist loudly, which then forced some people to see the true face of Israel, that before they could ignore, when it was only a few hundred to a few thousand people murdered every year. When it was only slow starvation instead of fast starvation, when the land grab was only a few dozen villages a year, rather than hundreds of them.
The complicit silence of countries like the US, UK, Germany, France, UAE and many more is at equal blame. Both for the attacks of October 7 and for the internal destruction of Israel.
Naah. There is plenty of Gen X, Y, Z who know and plenty of Millenials who dont.
Its just if you wanted to “do stuff with computers” you had to develop some understanding back then.
Today you can “do stuff” like gaming much easier out of the box. So not everyone who “does stuff” knows his way around.
In the office most colleagues of all generations just know how to do their specific things, mostly in MS Office products.

World News@lemmy.world•Revealed: How Israel's plan to carve up Syria was thwarted by Assad's downfallEnglish
1·2 years agoThe article is quite extensive so ill try to give a short summary:
Israel wanted Assad ro remain in power to render Syria ineffective. The UAE, one of Israels closest Arab allies wanted Assad to remain in power to demotivate any popular peoples movement from challenging their autocratic leaders.
Israel and the US wanted to prop up the SDF/YPG/PKK Kurds and Israel wanted to prop up the Druze in the South of Syria to split it into three parts with the Kurds fighting Turkey and the Druze severing the Iran-Hezbollah Axis for them.
Assad was convinced the UAE and Israel would help Iran and Russia intervene on his behalf, which is why he only fled so late.
With the fall of Assad Israel quickly picked up to destroy Syrias military capabilities and invaded more of the South of Syria to prevent the formation of a self determined Syria.
