It is indeed a weird mix in China, but I had not expected this one. Its a law that could be useful everywhere, even though it is hard to prove.

There are companies selling off PCs that are “too small” for Win11, really cheap. More than sufficient for a NAS. You might even get a bunch of them, chose the best mainboard/case/PSU set, put the others in storage, and get all the RAM and HDD in one box.

I was thinking of joining GitHub back then, but the announcement that MS is buying it put me off. I was right from the start.

I know my way around cryptography, therefor I am skeptical. If push comes to shove, they can simply command the Whatsapp App to silently surrender the keys. Nobody would know, it is a closed source app and protocol, and they can hide what they are doing inside the (probably) TLS encrypted stream.

I never assumed that this presumed “end to end encryption” was secure in any way. The key exchange either runs over Meta servers, and they just log them, or the client software simply surrenders the key (maybe always, maybe on demand) together with the data stream that still runs over Meta servers.

This very much depends on the country.

For my vitae, Latin has been rather useless in the last 40+ years since I got rid of it.

It was just the choice of the lesser evil back then: French with an asshole teacher or Latin with a demented one. At least the teacher I had at the end let me off with the equivalent of a D instead of an F.

I had Latin in school, and the teacher was a bit senile already. He started making the rounds to check our homework - which I had not done. So I just hastily scribbled some lines of gibberish into my notebook. He came to my place, looked at my notes, and scolded me for my bad writing. And signed it off as done…
