Technology@lemmy.world•Chinese Courts Rule Companies Cannot Fire Workers Simply to Replace Them With AIEnglish
2·1 day agoIt is indeed a weird mix in China, but I had not expected this one. Its a law that could be useful everywhere, even though it is hard to prove.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What Is A Good Sub $300 Computer I Can Use For A Server?English
7·1 day agoThere are companies selling off PCs that are “too small” for Win11, really cheap. More than sufficient for a NAS. You might even get a bunch of them, chose the best mainboard/case/PSU set, put the others in storage, and get all the RAM and HDD in one box.

Games@lemmy.world•What game do you personally have the most hours played in?English
3·1 day agoEither Minecraft or Animal Crossing. Both are far beyond 2000 hours, but I don’t know which is ahead.
Multiple tabs of the same thing is the worst. “But i have changed XYZ, why is it not on the page?” - “Bro, you have edited and saved the page in that tab, not in this one.”
What? You don’t have rats? Or is that thing in the back supposed to be one?

Technology@lemmy.world•A federal agent said WhatsApp's encryption is a lie. Then the investigation was shut downEnglish
11·2 days agoI know my way around cryptography, therefor I am skeptical. If push comes to shove, they can simply command the Whatsapp App to silently surrender the keys. Nobody would know, it is a closed source app and protocol, and they can hide what they are doing inside the (probably) TLS encrypted stream.

Technology@lemmy.world•A federal agent said WhatsApp's encryption is a lie. Then the investigation was shut downEnglish
341·2 days agoI never assumed that this presumed “end to end encryption” was secure in any way. The key exchange either runs over Meta servers, and they just log them, or the client software simply surrenders the key (maybe always, maybe on demand) together with the data stream that still runs over Meta servers.
For my vitae, Latin has been rather useless in the last 40+ years since I got rid of it.
It was just the choice of the lesser evil back then: French with an asshole teacher or Latin with a demented one. At least the teacher I had at the end let me off with the equivalent of a D instead of an F.
Always has been…
I had Latin in school, and the teacher was a bit senile already. He started making the rounds to check our homework - which I had not done. So I just hastily scribbled some lines of gibberish into my notebook. He came to my place, looked at my notes, and scolded me for my bad writing. And signed it off as done…

Ah, yes, the party of fiscal responsibility hard at work!
