She did explicitly state that it can’t be blocked or defended against, but it comes out later that this only means through magical defense of a direct hit. It can be physically deflected - so indirectly defended against. Dumbledore uses magic to move a statue into the way and protect himself and Harry. This was in the fifth book though, so it’s definitely possible she retconned it after criticism

You’re definitely right about it being a poorly-contrived scoring system, but there are a few games in the books where the team lost the game but grabbed the snitch. It’s always described as a “stem the bleeding” type decision
Edit: sorry, now seeing the replies to your other comments saying this, I guess you know by now 😅
I think it’s a joke but this would be a real game changer if so

I’m with you, it’s confusing. But I think what it means is this:
The study ran for 90 days. Non-sterol bees had stopped doing bee sex by then. Sterol bees were doin it all the way up to the end of the 90 days - and then the study ended. We can therefore assume they wanted to continue having freaky beedsm sex for even longer.
Unfortunately I don’t think this is true. Every 3D face is the intersection of a 2D plane with the upper and lower bounds of the 3rd dimension. So I think a hypercube “face” would be every 3D “plane” at both the very start time AND the very end time. Meaning the ant would need to immediately accelerate to light speed - so no time would pass - and then (otherwise) normally traverse the faces, wait until the end time, and then repeat the process in reverse (still at light speed).
