As if AI gave any power in the first place. I’m yet to see any AI produce anything even remotely useful, and have about a dozen or two cases where it was nothing but a complete waste of time.

I’ve seen worse. I’ve been to a hotel where corridors were shaped like lowercase m letter, with central leg being the entrance and side legs having rooms on both sides, so the windows of inner ones were facing each other through public lobby 🫣 Needless to say, none of the curtains were ever open, so they were effectively windowless
Also, I miss Pinterest.
Wait, what? Why? Are you talking about the same Pinterest as that search-result-clogging, not ever leading to originals, spamming and content-obscuring piece of shit website?

Dumb take since people could travel through both ways visa-free all the way until 2022, even after 2014, during the donbass war, so the invasion was effectively a border closure and a restriction of people’s movement.

There’s “Linux Kernel Developer Workspaces” series on youtube. Spoiler: most of them look like dumpsters, even if discounting that it was over 10 years ago. I guess it takes certain type of trash goblin to work on linux kernel.

32·1 month ago… all of them? Pretty much all the root DNS servers are run by USA or US-based companies. The only place where uncle Sam’s hand won’t reach you are the countries that took precautions to isolate themselves like Russia, China, North Korea, etc, but you’d have other hands to worry about, or neo-DNS systems like .onion, .i2p and that crypto thing I don’t remember the name of.

1·1 month agoYou cant use both partitions
Well you can with a hypervisor, but why bother when you can just run windows VM in linux… until you discover some game anticheats like battleye went out of their way to detect and block virtualization of any kind, so you need to boot windows natively sometimes. Of course you could go the other way and run linux vm inside windows but then all the flexibility of a linux system is lost in a rigid windows wrapper, which makes it kinda pointless…

6·2 months agoI never had any in my childhood, mom told me they were terrible and she only bought them for a box. Now last week a few decades later, one of them has caught my eye in a store so I immediately bought some. Man, my mom was absolutely right, that goddamned box has managed to disappoint me twice…
There’s no prefix, so when “the” is used for emphasis it’s completely lost in translation. “The Great Gatsby” is just “Великий Гэтсби”. Though that little ий hides the same complexity as german as it implies male and that this is used in a sentence just to name something. If Gatsby was female it’d be “Великая Гэтсби”, and if it was something ungendered, like a place somewhere, itd be “Великое Гэтсби”. And on that part about placement in the sentence, it could be something like [an achievement of] Великого(male) / Великой(female) Gatsby, like when talking about belongings or actions of someone; Or [I gave something to] Великому/Великой, and a few orhers. As you can see there are duplocates and ambiguities. Add present/past/future tenses to the mix and it becomes a complete mess.
In firefox you can choose custom blocking, and there select “All cookies”. It’s pretty radical though as it makes browser never send the cookie header and removes
document.cookieobject entirely
Months are stupid anyway, lets drop them and swap for what they were supposed to represent instead: the moon phase, so today would be 216-2026-Waning Gibbous

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are datacenters in space more lucrative than on earth?
8·2 months agoELI5 version: You know how things glow red when heated up? That takes energy, or, more precisely, that converts heat energy to light. And you know how the color changes the hotter it is? Even before its starts to glow red it actually still glows, pretty much everything does, we just dont see it because it falls outside of visible spectrum, but thermal cameras can and that’s how they work. So, for space question, just take a big plate, and unlike solar panels, point it perpendicular to the sunlight. Run some coolant through it and you’ve got a space chiller. If you look at i.e. ISS photos you’ll see big solar arays at the sides and smaller jagged square panels protruding off the middle and some off the sides, those are exactly it, the so-called “heat rejection units”. Actually while double checking myself I was surprised to learn that they do not run a thermal pump between radiators and everything else, I always thought they did as hotter objects dissipate more energy, but apparently shipping more radiators to orbit was a better tradeoff than constantly wasting energy pumping the heat away.
I cheer when a noname brands and small companies pull this off. Take money from the rich, give them an overpriced trinket, then inevitably spread it with the community (you’re not selling garbage to the rich to buy garbage for the rich, arent you?). So yeah, buy those cool rusted zipties and five-figure speaker stands and shoes or whatever, they’re so cool man I envy you so much.
