It might not be for your area, but maybe your usecase is the more niche one? Imagine something like this in NYC, Detroit for e.g. delivering parcels. And if the battery is empty? Well the cargo space also will be empty so you can have it loaded up at the fulfillment center and also recharged - while the driver hops into the next already loaded vehicle. That’s easily doable because hey it’s just 10k.

Most people who have to haul stuff don’t drive around for 200km. They need to carry a load 20km - and since that car can be charged from a normal socket you can basically charge anywhere. Imagine a local delivery for a supermarket. Or a regular postal service driver. Also - charging this should be damn cheap compared to refueling for like 6$/gallon (which another commenter said is the current price in Mexico)

Kinda, but also I checked the original announcement - they promised 5 years of software and hardware support. And they had spares for 7 years as they just stopped selling them like 3 weeks ago. For a phone they stopped selling in 2022 (after it launched in 2019). IMHO that’s a fair support time. Mind you - again that was 7 years ago when a 5 year software support was still groundbreaking as far as I recall.

I’d love it if devices lasted even longer. But with the current smartphone world I’m more than willing to hand it to FP - it’s been ‘fair’.

I’m not saying 5 years is a long time to support a phone - Apple does really well in terms of software support - I am saying having genuine spares available for that time is.

Fairphone already does pretty much what you want - keep spares available for an insane time. They don’t have spares for the 3/3+ anymore but for the 4 which was released like 5 years ago.

And we don’t know why the 6+ exists yet, it could be a simple stupid reason like Qualcomm deciding they don’t want to produce the old SoC for as long anymore.

Personally the fact that we can even get what is basically ‘just’ a mainboard upgrade for a smartphone does speak for Fairphone IMHO

Except they can’t get the same punishment as people like ‘going to jail’ and will instead get a stern talk or maybe even gasp a slap on the wrist

From my personal experience with (unfortunately) dark grey shutters facing south: Having just the holes open allows minimal airflow, which helps decrease the temperature between them and the window - because if the sun bakes the shutters, the air trapped behind them will get HOT - like hot enough that you can feel a difference when holding your hand against the glas.

For me it was better than having them completely closed, also it allowed a tiny bit of natural light in, but your mileage may vary

I’ve got a similar build - the only thing I’d consider upgrading is the CPU to an X3D but honestly that’s chasing the last few drops. All games run great on pretty high settings and stable 60 - which is enough for me.

I had more of a spectacle fighter / action fighter vibe with it.

Like Metal Gear Rising or something close to it. Honestly I’m pretty stoked for it - I mostly hope for a somewhat modern Onimusha 3 - I didn’t really get too warm with the Remaster of 1 'though so I’m not 100% sure.

IMHO it should not really mean shorter batteries. Might we loose 5% capacity or something like that for them to be more repairable? Probably.

But the option to manually replace the battery will - over the life of the device - outweigh that in my opinion.

My phone is now 4 years old - the main reason why I’m considering getting a new one is the battery life degrading. It still has ~80% battery health left - enough to get me through a non-demanding day but not enough for a more regular one.

If I could just replace the battery - I’d have done that already. But also I’ll have to replace it next year anyways as it’ll be EOL on security patches.
