Are you the kind of person who thinks “Where’s the any key?” when the computer says “press any key to continue”? Like, overly literal, inability to parse intent and deep meaning?

poe’s law is real and i can’t tell if this is sincere. It’s so cliche I think it might be a joke, but some people essentially are sad little jokes so maybe it’s real.
There should also be something like “slop’s law” for “any post on the internet might be AI slop, or might be trash hand crafted by a person”
If I ever play D&D again, I think I’m going to spend a lot of time in session 0 getting on the same page about if we’re playing D&D as a resource management game, or as a wacky hijinks game. So many people want to play the latter, but expect a long rest to be as easy as it is in video games.
“I’m out of spells! Can we long rest?”
“You’re out of spells after casting nearly every single round of combat in the past 3 fights, and you want to chill out for 8 to 16 hours here, in the court of the evil duke’s castle, while he’s working on a ritual to summon a demon lord in a few hours?”
I mean, I kind of get it. The game is set up so you have all these cool toys. Of course you want to use them. That conflict is why I dislike per-day resources.
Conservatives often say things not because they believe them to be true, but because of what they believe the effect will be. They seek power for themselves, and to subjugate others.
They might say “Free speech is paramount” today, but that’s only because they want to say stuff without consequences. When you want to say something, they’ll say it’s dangerous and unpatriotic. The consistent theme is “I can do what I want. You do what I tell you”. In-groups to protect, and out-groups to bind.
They are horrible people in some fundamental way.
Some of them might not even realize they’re doing it. They’re just riding the waves of their emotions.
I bet someone has compiled a list of common video game tropes people try to bring into tabletop games. “Expecting a merchant to buy the blood soaked armor without questions” would definitely be on there.

Games@lemmy.world•Monster Hunter Wilds game reviews hit "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam — can Capcom turn it around?English
0·11 months ago- Mods
- fan patches
- backwards compatibility stretching back ~50 years
- indie games aren’t always on consoles
- fewer subscription fees
- hardware can be cheaper over time depending on details
- games, especially older games, can go on sale for deep discounts
- piracy
- can avoid supporting megacorps like Microsoft and Sony
Just off the top of my head
I say this a lot but the conservative worldview really boils down to “my group is good and yours is bad”. That’s it. Thus when a conservative does something, it’s cool, because they’re good. When someone else does the same thing, it’s bad because they are bad.
You can’t argue with this. It’s like if you’re making a math proof and someone tells you it’s wrong because you’re wearing a green shirt. The color of your shirt has nothing to do with this geometry. The hypocrisy has nothing to do with their value system.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump says 'I don't know' when asked if he must uphold the Constitution
0·1 year agoYou proud now MAGAts? Does this make you proud?
They don’t care. All they care about is their in-group is strong and the out-group is punished. They’re shitty people.
There are some people who want to be wealthy to the tune of flaunting it, making other people figuratively or literally bow down to them. Those people should not be allowed to have power.
If I was somehow a billionaire, I like to think I’d be spending my money on socially useful stuff. More libraries. More infrastructure. Housing. Can an ultra rich person essentially run public housing and transit, at least on a city-wide scale? Probably. but the kind of person who gets to be ultra rich is probably an asshole.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?
0·2 years agoIf you accept that there are moral/ethical problems with eating meat (contribution to climate change, health concerns, animals being killed and eaten, whatever), and choose to eat meat anyway, and encounter a vegan, what has to happen?
You can accept that they are making a better choice, but then you have to accept that you’re making a worse choice. Most people are cowards and protect the ego at any cost. Rather than shrugging and saying “yeah, i should eat less meat. Good for you taking the high road”, which requires accepting that you’re not being the best, you can instead grab onto any reasons why no it’s really them that sucks. That’s easier, more comfortable, and doesn’t require any painful introspection or changes.
It’s the same mechanism when people get mad at cyclists, pedestrians, people who go to the gym, people who don’t shop at Walmart, whatever. They’re doing something that makes you feel bad in comparison. Most people are terrible at that and will lash out instead of doing anything productive.
Alternatively, or maybe additionally, people are really tribal, and once they adopt the idea that vegans (or cyclists, or people driving small cars, or people wearing sandals, whatever) are in the outgroup, then they enjoy being hostile to them.
People are ego driven emotional morons. All of us. Me, too. It’s terrible.

It bugs me when people refuse to acknowledge they’re being a selfish prick. At least have the strength of character to look someone in the eye and say “Yes, I’d rather you die than me”. Fucking cowards.
