It’s one step beyond monitoring. The mega rich want to control AI because they can train them to say whatever they want without question.

They want to shape the world around them. Ask an AI about Tiananmen in china. The west is no different, they are going to try to shape how generations develop (or don’t) their critical thinking skills.

But the new guy thinks that HE is indispensable. And round and round we go.

It can be both. Some generations have a higher percentage of shitty people. The obscenely wealthy have always been shitty. AND Boomer’s grew up in circumstances where they were able to get/do whatever they wanted. Now the only way to do that is to shit all over their children. The Boomer’s parents sacrificed a lot to give them a better life without having to worry about how they got there. The Boomers in turn believe they deserve and are entitled to everything they want and their children can fend for themselves.

It’s only really good at maybe making repetitive tasks faster. At the cost of our environment.

They will be pardoned for federal crimes. It doesn’t matter. State laws are the only option if you want to hold any of them accountable.

I’m curious if they take into account binging. Because I will watch the first episode of the season when they release it (recently The Boys, Invincible, and Monarch) but then I will wait to watch the rest.

Yeah, I am just saying some of the things I have heard. People don’t want the cognitive overhead of having to make decisions before trying a thing. They just wanna sign up and look around get a feel for something before deciding to dive in.

Mastodon in particular has a steep onboarding process. In order to get it useful you have too

• Sign up for an instance (which they have to find)
• search for people to follow when people are thinking in topics.

There isn’t an easy way to stumble into new things. I found it tedious and others I have spoken with have said the same. I suppose Mastodon isn’t for me (hence why I am here).

I don’t already know who I want to follow though. What do I search for?

BTW these are things I have actually discussed with people when they are trying to look into fediverse stuff. They don’t want to know how it works. They just want to open up their devices and turn their brains off.

Which is probably a good thing for federated services as it filters out a bunch of people we probably don’t want here. It’s like a test to join.

My issue with starter packs is I don’t want to commit. What if I pick the wrong one? What if I pick the wrong one instance!?

The anxiety of picking the wrong instance is a design failure. Content discovery shouldn’t depend on getting that choice right.

The fediverse needs a better content discovery/curation infrastructure.
