AskUSA@discuss.online•Do they sound like born and bred Americans?English
34·10 days agoI suppose it’s pointless to try to convince you that these are real people, not AI bots, so instead let me ask you an honest question: how do you distinguish between bots and real people, and what criteria must one meet to qualify for the latter category as far as your perception goes? There are, admittedly, a lot of scammers out there, but, nonetheless, not everyone is a scammer, and one wouldn’t want to operate on the assumption to the contrary, so this question warrants serious reflection.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Will the proliferation of AI slop lead to the renaissance of craftsmanship?
7·12 days agoI would hope that the more regularly people interact with AI slop, the more obvious it becomes to them that it’s, for lack of a better term, soulless - and soullessness is intuitively repugnant.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can you tell the native language of the people from these clips?

It’s neither South Africa nor the UK, though I’m surprised how often the native speakers of this particular language are mistaken for South Africans, given that I can think of hardly any salient connections between the two🙂

Polish. Thanks for your guesses and congratulations to all those who were close or even hit the nail on the head, even if somewhat hesitantingly.

An interesting and well-argued guess, but I’m afraid it’s nonetheless somewhat off the mark.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can you tell the native language of the people from these clips?
3·13 days agoThat’s right, none of them is a native speaker of English - their English is learned via the standard combination of school, extracurricular courses, media exposure, and other typical means available in largely monolingual countries, and subsequently polished up abroad (at least two of them moved to Anglophone countries for university). Thus, I figured that the undercurrent of their native pronunciation should be sufficiently conspicuous to allow for making some educated guesses about their origin 🙂

3·13 days agoThat’s an interesting and unexpected guess. It would seem to me that no. 3 in particular doesn’t sound even remotely Welsh, but perhaps absolutely wild guesses (to use your phrase) dispense with such stereotypical assumptions🙂

Here they are both pictured at 33.
