This can also be combined with the sound of the grid, or mains power, to figure out a general location and an exact time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0elNU0iOMY

Surely there has to be a breaking point right? I wonder if there could be some kind of workaround through Tor, maybe we’ll have to make a new internet with black jack and hookers, or maybe the populace will get complacent and we’ll be forced back into shopping malls to get our social interactions.

The main problem is how a user’s age is verified for laws like this. Why not just make the same law apply to the entire platform? I think all of us could benefit from less addictive social media.

Plus it would open the door for even more tracking.

True. If there’s no law against it I’m sure it will happen sadly.

Maybe it’s meant as a disincentive to keep people from using services like klarna because too many people aren’t financially responsible enough to handle it.
Sorry you got some benefit out of it, but I would just stop using it after this. It doesn’t help much and if you delete the account it’s one less account you have to worry about getting sold or exposed in a data breach. The EU is better than the US for a lot of consumer protections, potentially including this law, but not necessarily privacy.

But think of the shareholders!

Even if you can’t find them online, taking their picture might help by itself. When people know they are being recorded they often change their behavior.

I wonder if it’s related to all the people migrating from California after covid? Or maybe those people were super red and drawn to Texas because of it.

I can see why stocks related to Musk would fall, but shouldn’t other tech stocks do the same if they will all be held to the same laws? And why would the value of the dollar fall? Isn’t it essentially a reflection of how trustworthy the government is?

To raise this issue on github for our entertainment?
I’d like to know too. I bet most Lemmy users are here because we got sick of Reddit, which I consider part of big tech. I’ll participate in this strike as much as I can, but not because I saw this post, it’s just how I want to live my life. I think a lot of Lemmy users share similar goals, so this post may be preaching to the choir, and if it’s not, a 1 day strike on “big tech” won’t show results.
Oh that’s terrible. I wouldn’t equate it to the Holocaust though.
Did something happen with the war? What is this referencing?
I don’t understand how that many more people are using reddit every month. It has to be mostly bots.

I’m curious what lead to both of these posts

I won’t call it programming, but I could see people calling it that in another 10 years. I bet if people writing assembly code 40 years ago saw rust they would say it’s not programming either.
Thanks I’ll have to check it out!
What do you mean by this? Isn’t Google’s signing key only used to verify an update for an app is actually the for correct app? Even if Google could decompile the app, they wouldn’t have access to Signal’s servers or any encryption keys so they could read any messages.
