They’re noisy and dangerous and you have to stand in the cold to watch them

I like them well enough. They are environment dependent but I can watch them on tv with a low volume or muted. Its the colors and shapes really. Ill admit that watching the around the world new years ones are at least as much about seeing the locations. Also my dog hates them big time so im not wild about them going off locally. Lastly I worry they are just wasteful and not good for the environment. I kinda wonder if drones are better but they would need to be used a whole lot over their lifetime so im not sure if they are resource wise.

I’d rather listen to fireworks a couple or three days a year than the incessant, random barking of all the fucking dogs around us. Not to mention clearing up the cat shit on the front grass every few days. Fucking hate your pets. They’re noisy and dirty and I have to stand in the cold clearing up after them.

I’ve always liked them, I like the feel of the bass of the explosions in my chest.

Plus I work between two displays in London so it gives me a job.

Having said that, they should be banned for use by the public because the majority of the public are fucking morons and can’t use them responsibly.

Agree with everything you said. The feeling and noise is part of the experience. It’s like when you go to an airshow and the jets make all the atoms in your body vibrate.

But yeah, they should only be used by professionals at authorised displays. I think a lot of people get annoyed by them because people set them off randomly over the course of a couple of weeks.

I don’t mind a single occasion for 5-10 minutes, maybe twice a year.

Yesterday it felt like I was living in a microwave, next to the popcorn bag. That’s less preferable.

It’s a first world problem, but I’ve been playing a game where relying on sounds is key. Including distant explosions. Wearing headphones (otherwise I would have hated bonfire night even more) it was hard to tell what’s real and what’s not.

But even outside of the game, after a while it gets pretty exhausting for me. I don’t think the general populace is responsible enough to use fireworks safely and considerably.

I think they should be restricted to organised displays only.

The general public can’t use them responsibly.

We can only carry a non-locking folding knife of 3 inches or less in this country.

But launching incendiary rockets? That’s just fine apparently.

Our approach to fireworks has always seemed an odd inconsistency about our laws to me.

They’re often used for bad things

They’re really not. They are often used irresponsibly by dumbass people. They aren’t used as weapons because the destructive power is quite honestly miniscule and hard to utilize. A vast majority of damage caused by these things are by accident, not intention.

Reading this post as an Australian is wild. I’m glad I don’t live somewhere that allows the general population access to explosives.

same here, the noise and environmental devastation. I understand childrens thinking they’re fun but audits? Most depressing though is others don’t see it like this, that a few bright sparkles are all it takes to distract is more the issue

As a teenager I loved it. Blowing stuff up was always fun, honestly that part still is but these days I blow up electronics.

As an adult. I fucking hate it and can’t wait for it to be globally banned. The stress on household pets alone is enough reason to ban it, never mind the teenagers blowing off their hands or the huge mess it causes. And of course the mess gets cleaned by other people than the ones that made it.

Thankfully the Netherlands banned it, however our neighbors didn’t. Trash people will buy overpowered fireworks from Germany and set them off here which is arguably worse.

Is there a fire code / regulation in your area which seems totally pointless & unreasonable? You can thank an asshole setting off illegal fireworks for that

In Switzerland, theres an upcoming vote on banning private fireworks entirely in a few weeks. And it looks like it might pass by a big margin. People are just tired of it.

It was fun as a child, but back then we had very little fireworks, and only on the national holiday. Nowadays, theres constant banging for several days around both new year and the national holiday. I hate the fucking noise and will vote yes on the ban.

Yeah they suck, and I’d like to see heavy regulation on them if not banning them altogether. My dog hates the noise, and we don’t need more microplastics spread everywhere for a bit of entertainment,
