Very good post, but an important subtext to clarify here is that treating slaves good is still slavery (I’ve seen this discourse of “…but my ancestor treated his slaves good” in actual use in US media)

Yeah, best case scenario is that the gentlest slaver gets moved up a level from the very bottom of hell.

Slavery is inherently violent, because catching escaped slaves is a violent process, directly sponsored by slavers. It really doesn’t matter how respectfully they speak, or what amenities they provide. If every plantation had been set up as a spa, it would have still been a violent system for the simple fact that slaves who left would be subjected to violence. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. Every person who ever owned a slave committed a violent act every day for every slave held. It’s just not possible to treat a slave “good.”

I’m preaching to the choir here. The sheer ignorance of euphemizing slavery boggles the mind.

I love love love true stories of slave uprisings/revolts throughout history, same for Native American revolts and ambushes in American history.

Thank you for this. These stories remind us of collective power and the enduring spirit of humanity. Power to the people, always.
