Many cultures, historically, fought in tunics which left the legs bare!
I know kilts specifically have a more recent history, and were anachronistic in Braveheart, but Scots definitely fought in kilts in the 17th and 18th centuries. I don’t have a good grasp on Scottish history in general, though, so I couldn’t tell you if they were bare-legged, even if not wearing a tartan kilt, in the medieval period or not.
