The winter of 1794–1795 was exceptionally cold, causing the Zuiderzee to freeze.[8] Pichegru ordered General of Brigade Jan Willem de Winter to lead a squadron of the 8th Hussar Regiment to Den Helder. De Winter had been serving with the French since 1787, and would later command the Dutch fleet in the disastrous Battle of Camperdown.
Nominative Determinism
I feel like the negotiations were something like, “You can give up and surrender, or we will set your ships free of the ice… by lighting them on fire to melt the ice.”
WHAT ?

Shit I got it wrong.
What killed the dinosaurs?
easier with camels because ships technically have cavalry armor
The fleet was rather low on morale and in the verge of mutiny, to be honest.
As matters didn’t ameliorate under the French controlled Batavian governement, most of the ships of the fleet later surrendered to the English without any battle.
Reminds me of when I play Kingdoms Reborn and I’m trying to conquer a small tribe. Somehow, a handful of unarmed villagers will kick the asses of all the warriors, cavalry, and archers I’m able to send.
