He was already deployed to Europe and the Middle East in the past. Safe to say he had a whole fucking year to leave the military, but he chose to stay and protect the fascist pedophile regime.

You can’t just up and leave the military any time you’d like. You have to have a significant mental breakdown and end up in a psych ward to get out easily.

Yeah, a lot of them choose to stay in because they derive a sense of meaning/purpose/job satisfaction from it, and also because civilian life is hard by comparison.

I mean yeah, waking up at 5AM every day sucks, having to stay in shape sucks, being held to strict discipline, conduct, and grooming standards sucks, being told what to do by people who are often dumber than you sucks, having to stand 24-hour posts once a month sucks, having to do annual qualifications and tests sucks, et cetera, but

Having most of your bills already covered so that you don’t have to think about them is kinda nice, making a steady paycheck with cost-of-living adjustments and continuous growth is kinda nice, having guaranteed 30 days of PTO per year is kinda nice, having medical and dental covered is kinda nice, having a guaranteed place to live (even if you don’t get to choose it or your roommate) is kinda nice, having a chow hall where you can eat three meals a day is kinda nice (even though you technically pay for it when it gets deducted from your paycheck, but you don’t really have to think about that).

Come to think of it, it’s a lot like communism. Actual communism, not the botched attempts we see so often in history.

Of course, now with the whole [gestures at everything] going on, I’m sure the calculus is a bit different. Can’t say what’s going through anybody’s minds right now…

It’s honestly been refreshing yankistanis losing their collective minds and threatening to leave fediverse, when faced with a different opinion that isn’t stroking their predisposition and ego.

The fragility of so called stewards of “freedom of speech”, when they’re out of the platforms catering to their faux supremacy.

I don’t think you realize what I’m saying. You have to literally attempt suicide in order to get out of the military without waiting out your contract or removing yourself from society.

Like, they need to be able to visibly see that you have attempted to kill yourself, and even then you have to convince them that it was real.

Would you cut open your arm right now to prove a point?

You can simply refuse to deploy.
No need to mutilate yourself or attempt suicide.
Just say “No, I won’t go”.
You’ll get a letter telling you where to meet your unit. Don’t go there.
Or if you’re already with your unit, don’t get on the plane.
Maybe you’ll spend a little bit of time in a jail cell, but even that is exceedingly rare.
Most likely, you’ll just be dishonorably discharged to get you and your opinions away from the other soldiers as quickly as possible. You will then have to find employment with someone who doesn’t care about that.

                German instance

Knows more about getting out of the American military than me

I literally did that. I told them I wouldn’t go to Japan. They confined me to my ship until I attempted suicide.

                You are not all-knowing.

No, it is you who does not understand. Why would you mutilate yourself? When you wake up in the morning, just continue sleeping and don’t go. Get a new job. Hell, even some jail time is better than killing innocent children in the name of a fascist pedophile.

It seems that many Americans have this unary thinking. Like you have one and only one option, which is to obey the fascist pedophiles.

              Ever heard of resistance?

Have things changed. I remember when you signed up for a four year enlistment.

It was never actually four years. The active duty contract is typically two to six years of active service, and then another four years of reserve afterwards. Basically, even after your active duty time is up, they can still call you back in (or just refuse to let you leave in the first place) for another four years.

It’s, or at least was, an eight year commitment with the typical active cycle 4 years but some would do 2 active 6 inactive or 6 active, 2 inactive. Education or additional active years (6/2) could bump up starting rank.
