No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I was in the market for a good used car, which car would be the best to outrun the cops?
1·1 hour agoIt wasn’t designed to outrun the police and it didn’t. It got stuck and the driver killed himself. They did manage to destroy half of the town though.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I was in the market for a good used car, which car would be the best to outrun the cops?
5·1 hour agoIn Finland we have a saying that someone has “Vatasen jalat, mutta omat kädet” which translates to “Vatanen’s feet but their own hands.”
Ari Vatanen is a Finnish rally legend.
So in other words: it’s not the car, it’s the driver. Anyone can drive fast but that doesn’t matter if you can’t keep the car on the road.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If I got in a collision with a car from the 70s with a car today, would not the 70s car win out since it would primarily be metal? If so why don't people buy more 70's cars?
12·5 hours agoIf you’re in an old car with no crumple zones, my intuition says it’s better to hit a modern car because then you also benefit from the other car’s crumple zones. Colliding with another rigid car would basically be like hitting a brick wall. I think the effect on the driver ends up the same in both cases.
If it’s two old cars with rigid bodies colliding, it’s exactly like hitting a brick wall. Even if the car itself is unharmed, the driver isn’t. It’s how quickly you stop that makes the impact dangerous, and in a car like that you stop almost instantly.
On the other hand, when two modern cars collide, there’s 2x the crumple zones, so the impact is the lowest there.

science@lemmy.world•Fertility rate drops to new record low: CDCEnglish
3·5 hours agoThe article is not talking about infertility - it’s talking about fertility rate which are different thing.
The total fertility rate (TFR) of a population is the average number of children that are born to a woman over her lifetime, if they were to experience the exact current age-specific fertility rates (ASFRs) through their lifetime, and they were to live from birth until the end of their reproductive life.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•when robots have all the jobs, who's gonna buy all the stuff?
1·2 days ago…so you can’t just look at a person’s wealth and say “nobody should be that rich” or that they’re “hoarding money” when the wealth you’re criticizing could not even be money to begin with but a company called SpaceX or Tesla that’s valued in the billions.
Wealth is not synonymous with money in the bank. You could be incredibly wealthy because you own a rare painting, but having that painting on your wall doesn’t pay your bills.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•(This is a really stupid question) How do you know that you are not stuck in a time loop unable to wake up?
4·2 days agoI don’t and it doesn’t matter. Now is all there is anyway.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•when robots have all the jobs, who's gonna buy all the stuff?
1·2 days agoIs Elon hoarding money because he owns multiple succesfull companies?
I don’t think so. Hoarding means sitting on a pile of something that you don’t use/need.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•when robots have all the jobs, who's gonna buy all the stuff?
3·2 days agoRich people don’t hoard cash. They have assets that are valuable. A billionaire doesn’t have a billion dollars on their bank account. Hell, they probably don’t even have a million in there. All that wealth is tied to investments that either increases in value or for the very least holds it.
Making money is incredibly easy if you have a lot of money to begin with. Going from zero to million is hard. Going from million to a hundred million, not so much.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where can i find a good video tutorial on shaving my junk?
4·1 day agoI don’t think it can be taught. At least not on a video. You just do it at it’ll get easier over time. I’ve been doing it for about 20 years and I went from “this is impossible” to “what even was hard about this” in just a year or so.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the most logical thing you are afraid of?
6·3 days agoDying alone. Not living alone or growing old alone but dying alone.
I dunno - it’s just quite sad to think being in hospice alone, knowing that the end is near and nobody but the nurses comes to check on you.

That’s probably the most Lemmy-approved answer I’m ever going to give to a question here.

Around six. I feel like it’s enough but it probably isn’t.
