There are absolutely cults that worship AI as a prophet and a savior. I totally get what you are saying though, and wholeheartedly agree with you.
Serial Experiments is the only anime that I have ever watched but it was 100% a mindfuck in such a good way but also in a bad way. It left me feeling very uncomfortable, and this was in like 2000.
