I’d argue that the Millennials did have it bad. They got told they’d have the traditional path, then got shat on by boomers constantly telling them it was their fault for not succeeding because “avocado toast” and “Starbuck’s coffee”. Meanwhile the boomers kept yanking the rug out from under eveyone with boom-bust recessions while saying “oh, that just happens every “x” years” while pillaging the economy by deregulating and consolidating. The milennials got lied to, hard. Generations after them had the “benefit” of knowing they were already fucked.

I’m Gen X and starting to see a lot of the boomer “uphill both ways to school in the snow with no shoes” bullshit from Gen X. STFU you asshats. My generation simultaneously says it had the greatest time and then turns around and whines about whatever manufactured hardship they come up with when talking about outher gens.

Yeah, we DID and DO have the best of both pre- and post-tech worlds, we arguably had the last shot at the traditional school, college, walk-in-your-resumee career, then buy a home, and the generational motto is “fuck you” if anyone even remembers us, but siddown. Does nobody curate their FB feed or use browser plug-ins to remove the garbage? Immediately “X”-ing unwanted ads, people, or pages keeps them at bay for a good while. Plug-ins like “social media fixer” will automatically remove “recommended” and any other unwanted junk you choose via phrase or keyword.

It can be usable and useful for when you want it if you take the time to fix it. I prefer it to reddit these days specifically because I can control what shows up on my screen, unlike reddit cramming in-line ads, suggested /r/ I don’t want to see, and …well, fuck spez for wrecking what used to be a cool place. Otherwise there is no point at all in using it.

Well, we’re not very democratic anymore. Yeah, yeah…we get to vote for our leadership. “Democratic”. But that leadership is already vetted and chosen by the wealthy with campaign contributions to ensure that an elected candidate will do what the wealthy want with barely a veneer of helping the actual country and citizens that are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the democracy.

Never ceases to amaze me when people get a work-issued device and they’re like “free (laptop, ipad) dude! and load it full of personal stuff. No effing way.

Any decently equipped IT department can see all that crap, and you’d better hope it’s decently managed because if it isn’t it could leak, whether by remote managment or if you break the device and have to surrender it for repair/repalcement.

Back when you could write your own savefile names i‘d cadge together some shorthand for the filename to help: sdqstswordgetthing.sav or some such. “Side quest to get sword get the [item] next on the list.”

They’ve been saying the “bubble is going to burst” for a while now. If they keep saying it eventually they might be right. Then everyone will jump up and down trying to claim they were the ones who rightly predicted it. A quick search by date shows plenty of articles discussing the AI bubble from 2025, 2024, and even a rare few from 2023. Three years of doomsayers waters it down to meaninglessnes even if they‘re eventually right.

I can’t believe they don’t just use barbituates like some countries with physician assisted suicide do. They just fall asleep, essentially. Not that I’m arguing in favor of the death penalty in any way.
