So use an external PM like flatpak or nix
Meanwhile in 16th century Ottoman Egypt:
You spin me kebab right round, right round,
With a steam engine baby right round round round
A distro that had such great ideas in the past like including Amazon ads inside the desktop or silently symlinking apt commands to snap have to do a better job to regain community trust, instead they reject efforts like Flatpak or AppImage and build partial closed-source.
Don’t forget outright selling user data to amazon, the fact that each snap slows down boot times, or the various claims that they’re illegally harvesting user data through Azure Ubuntu images to send promotional material.
The only community they care about are the micro soft execs…

4·6 days agoThundermail seems cool at least
Thunder* is developed by a separate corporation, they’re just both subsidiaries of the mozilla foundation. Also mzla is pretty much financially independent due to individual donations.

You can send e2ee emails with thunderbird.

9·6 days agoI’ve got no issues with helping people in need, but even if it’s not an embezzlement scheme, this is extremely bad prioritization unless their priority is publicity.
MDN is a proven resource that’s helped a lot of people learn to code. How many African translators can you hire for a milion a year, let alone like 8? How many more people would learn to code that way?l
But nah, let’s feed money into “partners” that use some experimental teaching methods, while destroying a crucial learning resource because corona made us broke.
Edit: fact checked myself and the corp killed MDN, and they’re paying the foundation to do projects like this through royalties.

7·6 days agoIn 2020 they fired the entire MDN writing team, slashed the budget, and basically left it in maintainance mode. The same year the foundation decided to drop millions on teaching Africans to code or some shit…

8·6 days agoIMO for personal use “drag and drop into the correct directory” is an infinitely better organisational system than tag based libraries, especially for pirated books. I’m not going to sync my books across 10 different devices since I don’t need more than 1 reader, so it doesn’t make any sense for me to waste time using tags, let alone fix them for every book I download.

175·6 days agoDid they also force them to kill MDN, buy pocket, or funnel 99% of the foundation’s budget on everything that’s not Firefox?
Edit: fact checked myself and the budget part is completely incorrect. The foundation just leeches on the corporation through yearly royalties.

I know that 99% of the time if someone takes hallucinogens they come back to reality just fine.

Just turn on your brain for a second. Psychedelics have been legal/decriminalised in some countries for years or decades. You’re saying 1 in a 100 trips leaves you insane. Try to make sense of those two statements and support it with literally any shred of data from the last couple of decades.
All of the traditional psychedelics are significantly healthier for your brain than having a few drinks. One can literally regrow neurons, the other kills them.
Sometimes the trip even makes them feel better. But, is it really worth messing with your brain’s delicate and super useful hallucination of the world around you?
And sometimes it can cure serious psychological conditions, autoimmune disease, allergies, and a host of other issues.
There’s a very good reason an increasing number of places are legalising them for therapeutic use.

RH owning Fedora and funding it by making the American army more efficient at killing civilians - perfectly fine
Fedora will probably comply with the equivalent of a teen setting their age to 130 to watch porn - morally compromised
I’d be more worried about literally upstream bug testing for the DoD…

They almost exclusively eat salmon. Humans have destroyed salmon populations. They share their territory with other natural prey like seals. They kill seals for fun. They can’t figure out that seals are edible.
But I’m guessing that’s not the main reason their population is declining
