The war dates back to the astroturf revolution that inserted the Shah(a nazi supporter who was at the time in jail) into power.
The revolution created and bankrolled by MI6 and the CIA. It led to the creation of BP.
Why did they do it? Because the democratically elected government of Iran had promised to nationalize the oil fields.

Their neighbors across the strait are all one sect of muslims, and Iran is a different sect of muslims.
The reason they want Iran eliminated as a regional power is that they can be the singular regional power and fuck over other sects of muslims like they did to Yemen.
