There’s a situation among some people in my favorite hobby. I’m nominally an organizer so I feel like I should be doing something but I’m not really certain what more I can do without stepping on the safety groups toes.
Have you had to deal with bullying? What happened, how was it dealt with, and what were the outcomes?
In some school districts in Canada (I’m looking at the Ottawa-Carleton School Board District here…) defending yourself from bullying can get you expelled, and will get you at least suspended under their “zero tolerance” rules which bullies know how to game perfectly.
You’re meant to tell a teacher, see, so the teacher can sit there and gaslight you with “Jamie didn’t mean to hurt your feelings” while “Jamie” is grinning and mugging behind the teacher’s back while you seethe quietly.
Or so I’m told by someone in the system now.
Luckily, this happened way before all this indiscriminately bully-coddeling. School was not happy, but all I got was a stern talk with the headmaster. Who then was surprized I had not hit this asshole earlier, and had a talk with the other guy.
