    Explanation: Albert I was King of Belgium during WW1. Despite the era of monarchs at the front being long-over at this point, Albert made a special point of visiting the frontlines regularly, as Belgium was overrun and occupied in-no-small-part by the German Empire, for which reason he gained the nickname of ‘the soldier-king’.

    He was also a major reformer, being part of the post-war Belgian consensus for universal suffrage, and a dedicated conservationist - a then-still-radical position.
