The world has never trusted the US. Because of all that stuff we do to it.

Europe trusted the US, from around the mid 40s until the bush regime. That’s the so called “american century”, from the US entering ww2 until “WMDs in iraq” - about 60 years.

It’s… really not. Outside of key historically American-friendly regions, Trump is just seen as another imperialist ghoul running America in a long line of imperialist ghouls running America.

It is. There’s a reason why European countries (and Canada) are trying to reduce their economic ties with the US. No country ever thought the US to be a force for good, everybody understood that capitalism was the single most important driving force behind the US international policy. But there was a semblance of decency and a principle of reciprocity among allies that the US helped maintain (obviously to its advantage most of the time, but nonetheless).

Now Trump is telling the rest of the world to fuck off, kidnaps a foreign leader, threatens to invade friendly countries and follows Israel in a genocide. What’s happening right now is completely different from the US foreign policy for the last 40 years.

          Yes, but also no.

Everyone can see the inflection point. Some might be tempted to roll the dice, we got a shit situation now, let’s see what happens. But everyone can see things are not like they used to be.

Trump is an accelerator, but he is also a symptom of a diseased country. The US has been religious fanatics since the Mayflower, nationalistic from 1776, imperialistic since WW1, and politically corrupt since Reagan (at the latest).

Those are some heavyweight cancers ravaging the country.

Oh yeah, absolutely. The county electing an obviously unfit person to the highest office is not something that happens on its own: it’s an indication of the rot running deep. The unfit person can then accelerate the destruction of the country in ways few were even able to anticipate.

The U.S. has entered exponential decline, where everything that happens makes the next step more likely and more impactful.
