Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it impolite to ask someone about their roots?English
41·14 hours agoWhen you ask that you are more or less subconsciously confirming your stereotypes you have of certain group of people. When I talk to people why do I have to know where that persons parents are born? It’s just putting people into small boxes they have nothing to do with and I hate being put there myself especially when it’s one of the first question. I prefer asking/being asked about the career and life path.
I hate when brain faster than hands typing or maybe its just really really slow :(
I never get why people do not understand satire, neither on twitter nor here. Its so on the nose you cant possibly think they are not aware of what they comment on… It is satire… right…?

Fediverse@lemmy.world•I'm still new to the Fediverse. What are your favorite unique things that your instance does? What do you wish was more widely adopted across instances/federated platforms?English
1·2 days agoThat sounds interesting, is it actually integrated into the UI? Or a separate thing?

Programming@programming.dev•What do you want out of a coding monospace font?English
1·2 days agoOh wow that looks pretty and also makes total sense in theory. I think I have seen it in other places as well and might just steal that. :) Thank you for pointing that out.

4·3 days agoYea, as its only applied to italics its less distracting than it might seem at first. Your IDE may not even use italics. In VSCode with my theme, italics are used for comments and variable names, which looks like this:

Hmmm… 🤔
(I know alternatives, especially “truly” European are pretty much not existent, those 8 europeans still could’ve chosen one that’s respects their data a bit more than Google does if they don’t trust them I feel like)

Games@lemmy.world•Cave Story+ gets surprise update with mod support, console improvements ported to PCEnglish
2·7 days agoYea, the gems were buried really deep. Had a DSi and only got points worth 15€ back than and wasted most of it on shovel ware :/ My younger self just did not know whats good. I did however got Photo Dojo and WarioWare: Snapped! which are small but fun in the end I spent most of the time on Flipnote Studio (Free) anyways :). I am now revisiting the ones Ive missed. Did you know that the SteamWorld Series hat its debut on the DSi eShop!?!? I was really surprised by that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SteamWorld_Tower_Defense

14·8 days agoRecently played the DSi Ware version. Can recommend it!
Yea, i think it’s rather common. You could fix it by simply blowing inside, past the buttons. I always thought it be the Y2K version of blowing in the cartridge.
To actual fix it I just cleaned everything that was in the vicinity of the shoulder button as well looking like it could make some sort of electrical connection using IPA. However even though it got rid of the problem for a lot longer than the blowing technique, it still is slowly failing on me again i feel like. :(
I always jump up in excitement when I lay eyes upon a comment of yours. Just can’t wait to hear what fun and exciting story you are about to share.
Thank you for your service, keeping lemmy unscrapeable since 2025. o7
Yoo, the picture was actually taken while I was fixing the left trigger of the DSi myself :D

The insides of my Nintendo DSi.
Also: why are these cool pictures not on c/pics ?! You all are making the coolest pictures but do not share any. I mean me neither but let’s change that :)
I know this is super weird but, I kinda like seeing a buy button on stuff like “elementaryOS” or “Zorin OS”, its essentially just an donation, but I think especially for normal people its that extra “professionalism” which makes it look like another “normal” OS to consider, which it is.
Yea, im kinda sick of what the tech industry has become. I do believe that tech and even the internet can have a net positive for humanity and I don’t mean it in the early silicon valley “making the world a better place thanks to my compression algorithm” sort of way. It does have the power to bring humans together and not stand in between as well as be an extension of your brain and not a replacement.
Open Phone (currently on hold, the webpage deteriorated over time) a Nokia phone as if it was made today. (usb-c, arm processor, 5g, 1tb sd, rss reader, podcasts, 2fa, web radio, fediverse client, offline lexicon, offline translator, weather, music, maps only showing a compass with directions, signal messenger)
An Arcade Machine built on top of a sensible Linux base running on a raspberry. The goal is to bring indie games in cafés and bars as I am super bummed out about arcades not being a thing anymore :(

Sounds like a new “Speed” movie in the making!
