Based on the Cinemacon reactions from normally favorable media sources, Supergirl is looking bad.

Putting aside that none of the actors were prepped for their presentation, apparently the scene they showed dragged on and was just generally received very poorly by the media members who were present.

Which was personally disappointing for me to hear as I like Millie Alcock, and thought the trailers have looked decent so far.

    Bummer.

Wait, so you’re basing your opinion on people who based their opinion on one scene? Really?

Cinemacon is an industry convention. Studios present there to get industry hype from both critics, and theater owners, for their upcoming movies.

DC picked the scene they thought was best able to sell the movie and generate buzz, and it was universally disliked.

        That’s a problem.

And that’s just what’s confirmed from this one convention. If you read other reports, the film has had significantly more test screenings than usual, because all its various cuts are being received poorly and they keep trying to recut it into a viable product for release.

We sure it’s not just the usual misogyny? (Note that I am not familiar with the Cinemacon audience.)

Yeah, when an ex tells you not that they’ve changed, but that it was all someone else’s fault…

These fucking wannabe-guillotine-testers went so far as to publicize their claim unprompted, too. (Oh, wow. The veracity? Mmf. Unassailable.🤌🏼)

Well. Shit. That’s good and dead, innit.

… What? That’s literally the exact opposite of what Safran said. He clearly positioned it as the fault of the industry – making zero attempt to distance DC Studios from the blame – and then claimed that they had changed with Supergirl.

Whether you believe the claim they’ve changed is categorically separate from (if I’m reading your comment right, because honestly it’s a bit incoherent) claiming Safran shifted blame elsewhere and purported not to have changed.

MCU slop basically caused the fatigue of superheros, nobody wants or needs promotion of a promotion of a supehero movie in another movie. superman/supergirl has been done to death with the previous CW shows,.

as a comic book fan I just hate when they make films based on books or heroes that don’t even get the time of day on the pages they’re based off. like the Eternals, or Iron Heart, etc. There were a couple of exceptions like Guardians of the Galaxy and maybe Shang-Chi but even then it’s like “Why do I want to go see a movie about Shang-Chi when I can’t recall the last comic book I read that he was in”

DC has the issue of over saturation of its characters and its properties PLUS reboots. Like you said it’s been done to death with their shows. Gotham characters are a prime example of this. How many shows/movies/crap do I need to see of Batman characters without Batman or even the slightest mention of batman in them? The Gotham TV show, Joker, Clayface, etc, etc, etc Or lets do ANOTHER series of films about Batman from a different perspective and/or timeline. Or Superman. How many god damn versions of Superman are you going to tell? On this show Superman has kids, on this show he’s teaming up with Flash and Green Arrow, on this show he’s not superman yet but wink wink nudge nudge he’s superman. Lets reboot Suicide Squad but keep like one character from the previous version and recast everyone else and really confuse people. AND THEN when it inevitably all shits the bed lets reboot the DCU YET AGAIN!

My best friend, a comic connoisseur and fellow Batman fan, losing his shit about the clayface movie. He doesn’t even dislike Clayface…he just doesn’t think he’s a big enough character to his own movie. Let alone his own movie that’s completely disconnected from Batman.

The only reboot I’d be VERY on board with is Absolute Batman.

Thirst-bait? What’s the meaning behind that? Are you just saying “they cast a hot woman so it’s bait”? Please elaborate for me, as I truly don’t understand your comment.

it is the difference between being a pretty woman and being pretty as a woman being your entire personality but movie edition

the trailer reads like ‘but look how different and misunderstood I am but also random penguin of doom and totally bad ass’

i mean even in that article image

        also

the text of that article is entirely hype and vague statements

I quite liked Reeves’ Batman and Gunn’s Superman, while a tad bit unfocused in narrative, was a fresh take on Superman i that was sorely needed after whatever the fuck Man of Steel and BvS were supposed to be, Cavill’s tight abs be damned.

Superman had a lot of flaws as a film and could have benefited from some aggressive rewrites, but the portrayal of Superman as a character was excellent. Quite frankly, it was refreshing to see a live action Superman movie that isn’t ashamed to be a Superman movie.

Were you stunned by how even your low expectations were left unmet?

Meanwhile, the new Superman movie was actually good, the only decent DC film since Nolan’s Batmen

this is what worries me. I had some neighbors who recommended it and personally I found it. Ok. The best parts to me were krypto and supergirl though so was kinda excited for supergirl although my expectations are low.

What would be cool and original? The new Superman was pretty good and nailed the tone of the character. Also did a good job of Guy Gardner and Mr Terrific. And Lex was legit a good bad guy, constantly testing the loyalty of those around him like a narcissistic billionaire does.
